Lorelai and I went to the dentist for our semi-annual checkup a few weeks ago. The good news is that she did great! Sat still, opened wide, and got a clean bill of dental health.
I, on the other hand, apparently cracked a molar. No idea how or when it happened so I was totally surprised when the hygienist pointed it out. She also was convinced it happened because I wore them down from grinding. Um, what? I don't grind my teeth. Very puzzling, but the only thing we can think of is that maybe I clench my teeth (when I'm stressed? Very possible given my stressful nature...), which had a similar affect. Oh, and I also had a cavity. Just fabulous.
So today, I went in to get the cracked tooth filled (thankfully no expensive crown needed) and the cavity filled. And now I sit here, 2 hours later, with my entire mouth still numb. I had a top right AND a bottom left shot of novacaine, so my whole face is seriously and uncomfortably numb.
I can't help but think about the irony here. My face is physically numb, when in the wake of some really upsetting news today, all I really want is to numb my emotions. Sigh. The good news is that we're taking an impromptu trip to the beach for the weekend, so hopefully I can relax my worries away. Temporarily, at least.

34 kisses for 34 years
Yesterday, I turned 34. I just love it when my birthday falls on Memorial Day weekend--that extra day feels like a bonus birthday present. And you'd better believe I milked this birthday weekend for everything it's worth. I most definitely pulled the "you can't complain, it's my birthday" card more than once. While it fell on deaf ears after one too many shopping trips, I do respect the collective effort to make my day and weekend special. That included a sweet handmade birthday card, cute clothes Adam and the boys picked out for me, and 34 kisses throughout the day for each of my 34 years. The best.
We spent quite a bit of time relaxing and not doing much, except getting a tan.
a MUCH needed tan...
We also went out to eat. Lots. Sushi lunch on Friday with my friends. Date night with Adam on Saturday where we hit up Zinburger before finally seeing Divergent, and ending the evening with two slices of heaven from the Cheesecake factory (which we're still not done with, two days later!).
A bacon Bloody Mary, sweet potato fries and a Zinburger. SO yum!
On my actual birthday, we took the kids to Bob Evans for breakfast where we stuffed our faces and tried to forget about the terrible service. And because the weekend wouldn't be complete without yet another trip out to eat somewhere, we stopped at Moe's today after yet some more shopping. Whew!
We also spent a bunch of time at the pool, which I'm sure made up for an equal amount of time spent shopping, as far as the kids are concerned. :)
So cheers to 34 years! If this weekend is any indication, it'll hopefully be a good one!

Friday night window shopping
I'm a saver/penny-pincher by nature, so I don't do a whole lot of shopping for myself on a regular basis. But occasionally, I get the shopping bug where I have a whole list of things I want. And apparently now is that occasion. Maybe it's the spring fever talking, and finally being able to switch over to my spring/summer wardrobe? Anyway, I really wanted a new maxi dress, so earlier this week I placed a target.com order. Then today, I really needed some shoes for Lorelai, so I hopped onto oldnavy.com. Shipping is free with a $50 order, so of course I had to load up the cart with other things. New skirt, new shorts, a new pair of shoes...thank goodness for free shipping and free returns, right?!
And now I'm going down the rabbit hole--I'll see a pair of shoes I like while I'm looking at skirts and start thinking about shoes. Then I'll see a cute top I like, and so on. Not to mention the many blogs I read that have convinced me I need to try out a new eye shadow palette and lipstick. I'm so easily influenced, apparently. :)
So I figured I'd put together a list of some things I've had my eye on lately but have yet to pull the trigger.
1. Sonia Kashuk eye shadow palette. Cheaper than the Naked palette, but looks pretty similar. I'd love to have more variety in my eye makeup collection.
2. Dior Addict Lip Glow. I've been tempted to try this since Kate first posted about it. But it's pricey, so I just can't seem to pull the trigger. But I do have to venture into Sephora to pick up my birthday gift soon (they still do that, right??) so maybe I'll stroll over to the lipstick and see what I think. :)
3. Black and/or silver flip flops. I love my Rainbows, but sometimes I feel like I need something just a tad bit daintier and dressy. You know, while still being a casual flip flop.
4. CND Vinulux top coat. Again with being influenced by other bloggers. I've seen a couple posts about how wonderful this stuff is, and I need all the help I can get as far as getting my nail polish to stop chipping after the first day.
5. Olive oil mister. The last time I tried to drizzle olive oil over my asparagus before I roasted it, I dumped WAY too much. A mister would be so handy!
6. Mandoline slicer. I've gotten into eating sweet potatoes lately, but the only way I can eat them is really crispy. Sweet potato chips sound like the way to go, especially since I just broke my Vidalia chop wizard. Either that, or a spiralizer. Sweet potatoes are a b*^%$ to cut!

Mother's Day happiness
My poor little blog has been so neglected lately. Things have been so crazy, and of course I've also been lazy in between (story of my life, ha!), but I've got so much to catch up on!
I'll start with Mother's Day since those are the most recent pics on my camera--and easiest to go through since I only took a few. Oops!
I had a really wonderful Mother's Day weekend. Quality family time, some fun, some relaxation, and lots of love.
A busy day of strawberry picking and pool time on Saturday led to some sleeping in--always VERY appreciated! Of course "sleeping in" is a relative term--on Sunday that meant Lorelai didn't wander into our bed until close to 7:30. The boys followed a little after 8am with homemade cards galore. Adam also surprised me with a generous spa gift card so I can go get spoiled with a massage and facial.
They each had written such sweet things about me and to me, I couldn't help but get teary from all the sweetness. And then I laughed when I saw that Aidan loves me because I pay for water so he can clean himself.
And Logan thinks I'm "prettier than a diamond" and would rather "have two of you than a diamond." {{cue the heart melting}}
We had a really low-key day, which was all I needed. Sure, I could have done without the grocery shopping, but we really needed food, so it was all good. :) That afternoon, we headed to the in-laws' place and had dinner with them and my mom.
As I was tucking Aidan, Logan and Lorelai into bed and thanking them for everything--the kind words, the sweet handmade cards, the snuggles, kisses, and love, and just for being in my life--I was brought to tears (three times in a row!) by how lucky I am. How truly blessed I feel as a mom, to have these special, wonderful, amazing children as my own. They're my whole world.
Oh, and I'm pretty dang grateful to my husband for helping me create them. :)
